State police investigating officer-involved shooting

Arkansas State Police said Tuesday afternoon that the agency is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Helena-West Helena.

According to state police, initial reports indicated that a Helena-West Helena police officer was called to the scene of an armed disturbance about 2 p.m. Tuesday at Holly and McDonough streets, where an exchange of gunfire was reported between at least two people.

Authorities said a responding officer at the scene also engaged in the gunfire, which left one person injured. The individual was taken to a Memphis hospital for treatment.

The officer was not injured, according to state police.

A state police report will be sent to the Phillips County prosecuting attorney's office for review as to whether the officer acted in accordance with Arkansas law at the scene.
