Goblins' ground game gets the job done

HARRISON 42, MOUNTAIN HOME 21

MOUNTAIN HOME -- The Harrison Goblins may not be as flashy on offense as they were last season but they still got job done Friday night in a 42-21 victory over the rival Mountain Home Bombers at Bomber Stadium.

The Goblins (5-A West) managed to pile up a total of 385 yards, 306 of which were on the ground, along with all the touchdowns.

The victory was the first for Harrison head Coach Joel Wells, in his first season with the Goblins after a 20-plus-year career in Missouri.

"It really felt great to come in here and get the this win like we did tonight," Wells said. "I am really proud of our kids. It was a hot, humid night but our kids battled it all the night and did not show any signs of wearing down. And I think we will still get better as the season goes on, building off this win."

Sophomore quarterback Noah Ditmanson led the Goblins offensively with 137 yards on 14 carries with one touchdown while junior tailback Joshua Williams ran for 115 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns.

Harrison led 21-0 before Mountain Home (6-A) could get on the board just before halftime. The Goblins had two long scoring drives in the first quarter, going 59 yards on 12 plays which ended with a 1-yard touchdown run by Kanon Kirkland. A 17-play, 82-yard drive capped by a 2-yard touchdown run by Williams followed.

Mountain Home had five turnovers in the game, two in the second quarter, and the Goblins capitalized on the second one when Kirkland scored his second touchdown of the night for a 21-0 lead with 2:47 left in the half.

The Bombers answered with their first sustained drive of the game, going 85 yards in 11 plays and got a 10-yard touchdown run by Drew Strope just before halftime to cut the Goblins' lead to 21-7.

When the Bombers failed to convert on fourth down from their own 25 on the first drive of the second half, the Goblins needed just four plays to reach the end zone. Kain Mears, who kicked all six of Harrison's extra points, scored a touchdown on a 13-yard run with 9:55 to go in the third for a 28-7 lead.

Then on the fifth play of Mountain Home's next drive, the Bombers fumbled the ball away and the Goblins recovered at midfield. After a nine-yard run by Williams, Ditmanson kept the ball and scrambled 41 yards for a touchdown and a 35-7 lead.

Mountain Home then put together its second scoring drive and got a 2-yard touchdown run by quarterback Zane Walker, but a missed PAT left the score at 35-13.

The two teams traded fumbles and the Goblins took advantage of Mountain Home's fumble scoring their sixth and final touchdown of the night on a 2-yard run by Williams to make it 42-13 with 9:55 left.

Walker capped the Bombers' next drive with a 28-yard scoring drive to set the final.

Ditmanson also completed 6 of 12 passes for 79 yards, throwing three times to Kirkland for 30 yards and twice to Williams for 40.

The Bombers finished with 337 total yards, with 242 of those on the ground. Strope led the Bombers with 116 yards on 21 carries and Walker had 94 on 17 carries.
