A MIDSUMMER'S NIGHT

Festival ballet performers set stage for dreamy event

Young ballerinas dressed as fairies in gossamer gowns with wings on their backs and wreaths of flowers in their hair greeted guests with trays of hors d'oeuvres Aug. 30 at A Midsummer Night's Dream at South on Main.

The fundraiser for Arkansas Festival Ballet included excerpts from the Midsummer Night's Dream ballet choreographed by the company's artistic director, Rebecca Stalcup, and a "Live Like a Local" raffle with prizes such as a stay at the Capital Hotel, Razorbacks football tickets and a tasting dinner for two at South on Main.

Heather and Brian Wardle won the prize package.

Arkansas Festival Ballet is a performing company whose mission is largely education and bringing up young dancers, but it performs several times a year. In addition to appetizers, refreshments included a summery sangria and special cocktails for the event named Oberon's Elixir, Puck's Dream and Cupid's Arrow.

Board members Amy Bell (co-owner of the restaurant) and Kim Meyer Webb were event co-chairmen. About 150 came to help raise almost $10,000 for the ballet company.
