VOLLEYBALL

Harding sweeps Henderson State

Harding defeated Henderson State 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-20) in its Great American Conference and home opener Tuesday at the Rhodes-Reeves Field House in Searcy.

Harding (3-6, 1-0) went on a 13-1 run in the first set to take a 13-4 lead, then held Henderson State (1-9, 0-1) to nine points in the rest of the set. The Lady Bisons used a 7-0 run to help claim the second set and a 9-2 run helped to claim the third set.

Sara Smith led Harding with eight kills. Molly Howard and Anna Leigh Cargile had 11 digs each and Zoe Hardin had seven blocks. Jessie Jacoby had 12 digs and nine kills to lead Henderson State.

OBU handles UAM

Ouachita Baptist swept Arkansas-Monticello 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-21) in the Great American Conference opener for both schools Tuesday at the Sturgis Center in Arkadelphia.

The Tigers (6-3, 1-0) led for the entire first set and allowed the Cotton Blossoms (3-3, 0-1) to tie the score once in the second set. UAM rallied in a close third set that featured 12 ties and 4 lead changes.

Abby Pickett led Ouachita Baptist with a match-high 22 kills. Kya Standford led Arkansas-Monticello with seven kills, while Aubrey Harrison and Carolina Gasparini added six kills each.

GOLF

Harding's Murry 8th at GAC Preview

Harding sophomore Cameron Murry, playing as an individual, shot even-par 72 on Tuesday to finish tied for eighth place at the Great American Conference Preview in Oklahoma City.

Alan Anderson led Harding's team scores, shooting a 1-under 71 Tuesday to finish tied for 13th place. He tied with Hunter Smith and Kinley Lee of Arkansas-Monticello. Theodor Karlsson of UAM finished tied for 18th place with Henderson State's Kevin Boutier, who was playing as an individual. Drew Greenwood of Henderson State shot a 5-under 67 Tuesday to finish tied for 22nd place.

Arkansas-Monticello (892) finished fifth as a team, while Henderson State (897) moved up two spots to finish sixth. Harding (912) finished ninth in the team standings.

UALR men finish fifth

The UALR men's team finished tied for fifth among 15 teams Tuesday at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate in Hattisburg, Miss.

UALR's George Trujillo shot a 2-under-par 69 Tuesday to finish at 4-under and tied for eighth place. Beau Hanson and Matias Calderon both also shot 69 and finished in a tie for 19th place. McNeese State's Robert MacIntyre won medalist honors after shooing 14 under for the tournament.

UALR shot 276 as a team, its best round of the event by 11 strokes, to finish tied with Texas-San Antonio with an 853 total. McNeese State (829) won the event, followed by Louisiana-Lafayette (844), Louisiana Tech (845) and Mississippi State (852).

Laker leads ASU women

Abi Laker shot a final-round 74 Tuesday to finish tied for 12th place individually, leading the Arkansas State women to a ninth-place finish as a team at the Memphis Intercollegiate.

Sarah Childers, playing as an individual, also shot a 74 and tied for 25th place. Host Memphis (874) won the team title, followed by Mississippi (907) and Cincinnati (917). Arkansas State (933) finished ahead of six other schools.

Late surge lifts UAFS women

The Arkansas-Fort Smith women shot 10 strokes better during Tuesday's final round of the Northeastern State Golf Classic in Tahlequah, Okla., sparking the Lady Lions to a seventh-place finish.

UAFS shot 317 as a team Tuesday and finished the event at 644. Oklahoma Christian (615) won the event, followed by Rogers State (617).

Olivia Gibbs shot a 5-over-par 77 Tuesday and finished tied for 22nd to lead UAFS.

Sutherland leads Harding women over Hendrix

Bethany Sutherland scored two goals to give the Harding women a 4-1 victory over Hendrix on Tuesday in Searcy.

Harding (2-2) also got goals from Larkin Hatcher and Morgan Springborn. The Lady Bisons took 31 shots in the game, including 22 in the first half. Hendrix (4-2), which got its lone goal from Lucy Moore, was held to five shots.

Williams Baptist men, women win

Mattheus Allonso scored all four goals for the Williams Baptist men in a 4-2 victory over Evangel on Tuesday in Walnut Ridge, while the Williams Baptist women got goals from Hannah Whitefoot, Maria Ramirez and Sierra Martinez in a 3-2 victory over Evangel.

Allonso's first goal came 4:09 into the match. Kyler Moore, who scored both goals for the Evangel men, tied the game with a goal at 13:31 in the first half. Allonso then scored goals in the 19th minute, the 22nd minute and the 75th minute to secure the victory for Williams Baptist.

Whitefoot's goal for the Williams Baptist women came in the 29th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Ramirez gave Williams Baptist a 2-1 lead in the 37th minute and Martinez scored in the 68th minute to give Williams Baptist the victory.

CROSS COUNTRY

Clark earns conference honor

Arkansas freshman Devin Clark was named the SEC women's runner of the week Tuesday following her second-place performance in the 6,000-meter run at the UC Riverside Invitational last weekend.

Clark recorded a personal best time of 20 minutes, 39 seconds to finish in second place in her collegiate debut and her first attempt at running that distance. She was the top finisher for an Arkansas team that placed five runners in the top 10.
