MARIANNA — A Phillips County jail inmate being held on a murder charge has died at the East Arkansas Regional Unit in Marianna where he was being held.
The Arkansas Department of Correction said 25-year-old Haward Tate was found unresponsive in his cell at the state prison about 10 a.m. Tuesday and died at the scene just more than an hour later. Correction department spokeswoman Cathy Frye says the death is under investigation by Arkansas State Police.
Frye says Tate was being held by Phillips County in space it leases from the state prison.
