Conway police chief to leave post for state lottery job

Conway Police Chief AJ Gary said Tuesday that he is leaving his current role for a director job with the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery.

Gary, who has been with the police department for 28 years, made the announcement during a regular meeting of the Conway City Council.

"I thank you very much for the opportunity to be your police chief for the last eight-and-a-half years, and especially to be able to serve this community for 28-and-a-half years," he said during the meeting.

Gary will leave the Conway Police Department on Oct. 31 to become director of security and regulatory compliance for the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery.
