Roy Lee Boles, 21, is accused of killing Jevon Tyrell Shearer, 19, the evening of Feb. 27. Officers responded about 8:22 p.m. to Parker and West 20th streets and found Boles, Shearer and another man, Ronald Bernard Cash, 25, had been shot.

Shearer of Sherwood was pronounced dead at the scene.

Boles and Cash were treated at a hospital and released.

Boles was not initially charged in the slaying. According to a court affidavit, investigators connected him to the killing through witness statements and physical evidence. He was charged Wednesday.

In addition to capital murder, Boles faces charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, first-degree battery and possession of a firearm by certain persons. He pleaded innocent to the charges Thursday morning in North Little Rock District Court.

Boles, a felon, has been held in the Pulaski County jail since March 6 on an unrelated parole violation. He remained in the jail late Thursday.

The court affidavit, filed by North Little Rock police detective Michael Gibbons, states that witnesses told police Boles met Shearer and the other men Feb. 27 to buy marijuana. The witnesses, whose names were redacted, said Boles was upset with the quality of the marijuana and had the men drive him home.

When Boles was dropped off, he turned and pointed a pistol at the men and said, "Give me everything," according to the court filing. Someone in the vehicle then reached for a gun, and several shots were fired, the affidavit states. Shearer was struck multiple times.

Police found nine .40-caliber shell casings and one .380-caliber shell casing at the scene. Investigators also reportedly found four cellphones, blood, a digital scale, several bags of marijuana and a glass jar containing marijuana.

Boles, in a recorded statement to police, said he was "walking down the street minding his own business" when the gunfire began and he was struck in the groin, according to the affidavit.

"Boles stated he has no idea who was shooting or why they were shooting a gun. He was just walking by and minding his own business," police wrote.

Court records show Boles had been on parole after being convicted of felony theft and residential burglary in March 2014.

He was involved in a burglary that ended in a fatal shooting by police in 2013. Boles and two other men had been breaking into vehicles at a Little Rock apartment complex when police confronted them. Police said one of the burglars, Kenzell Hobbs, 18, shot at an officer. The officer returned fire and killed Hobbs.

Boles and Gary Garnett Coleman, then 21, were accused of criminal liability in Hobbs' death and charged with capital murder. According to court records, they negotiated guilty pleas to multiple counts of felony breaking or entering and theft of property.

Court records show Shearer had been facing charges of first-degree battery and second-degree battery before his death. He was accused of stabbing three people during a fight in Sherwood in August 2014.

Shearer's death was the second homicide this year in North Little Rock.
