Man, 20, charged after girl shot in leg in Hot Springs

A 13-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition Sunday after being shot in the leg with an AR-15-style rifle, police in Hot Springs said Monday.

Jesse Alan Flemister, 20, was arrested and charged with second-degree battery, police said in a news release. He remained in custody Monday in lieu of $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear April 19 in Garland County District Court.

Police were called to a residence on Hillsdale Terrace about 6:45 p.m. and found the girl with a gunshot wound in the left leg, the release said. Flemister told police he was playing with the gun when it accidentally discharged one time, the report said.

The girl was taken to a local hospital and then flown to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock in critical condition, according to the report.

There was no word from police on the girl's condition Monday.
