Arkansas impresses Louisiana receiver

Shreveport, (La.) Evangel receiver Johnathan Jones traveled to Arkansas for a visit on Saturday and didn’t leave disappointed.

“It was great, it met all the expectations I thought it was going to be,” Jones said.

Jones, 6-2,185. 4.57 seconds in the 40 yard dash, has scholarship offers from Louisiana Tech, Texas Southern, McNeese State and Henderson State. He has a 3.3 grade point average and is planning to major in kinesiology.

Arkansas’ academic support made a strong impact on him.

“It’s spot on, if you fail any class, it’s like you tried very hard to fail,” Jones said. “They’re there to help you every single step of the way.”

Jones said Saturday’s scrimmage was intense.

“The way the team competing at the scrimmage,” he said. “It was like a full blown game. If the one’s were in and the two's were in, they were still fighting.”

He and receivers coach Michael Smith talked about his recruiting.

“He said he can’t wait for me to get up there,” said Jones, who plans to make a return trip for the Hogs’ spring game. said. “He was like ‘man when are you going to commit’ and I told him it would probably before the start of the season.”

Jones said he would be thrilled to receiver n Arkansas offer.

“It would mean the world to be honest,” Jones said. “It’s been the Razorbacks since like the eighth grade.”

Two former Evangel products, Arkansas receiver Jared Cornelius and safety Santos Ramirez along with receiver Keon Hatcher gave Jones and his teammate, Gaston Richardson, a tour of the campus.
