4 die over weekend from Arkansas road accidents

Two people died Saturday and two others died Sunday as the result of accidents on Arkansas roads, according to preliminary reports released by the Arkansas State Police.

A Bella Vista woman died Sunday after her car crashed into the rear of a 2007 Ford Mustang while driving on U.S. 71 in Benton County, according to a police report.

The crash, which occurred around 5:40 p.m., killed Anita Riddell, 83, and injured her passenger, 60-year-old Tyler Riddell, also from Bella Vista.

Police said the weather was clear and the road was dry.

Also on Sunday, a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 killed a 67-year-old man, according to a police report.

George Hoobler of Richardson, Texas, was driving west on Interstate 40 around 12:16 p.m. Sunday when his vehicle left the road and entered the center median, police said. The 2015 Ford F-250 he was driving came to a stop in a canal under the road and was found partially submerged, police said.

The accident happened near mile marker 266. Hoobler was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police said the weather was clear and the road was dry.

A 64-year-old pedestrian was hit by a vehicle while walking in a traffic lane on U.S. 70 in Hot Springs early Saturday morning, according to a report.

Ronnie Fletcher of Hot Springs died Saturday after he was hit around 2:11 a.m. by a 2004 Toyota RAV4 that was traveling east on U.S. 70, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.

The weather was clear and the road was wet, police said.

An 83-year-old man died Saturday from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash last month in Garland County, according to a report.

On July 22 around 10:19 a.m., John Bernsden of Hot Springs failed to yield to a 2002 Nissan Altima while attempting to turn onto Arkansas 192, police said.

Peyton Vineyard, 21, of Pearcy and Casey White, 22, of Hot Springs Village, were riding in the Nissan and were injured in the crash, police said.

The weather was clear and the road was dry, police said.

Bernsden died early Saturday from injuries he received in the accident, police said.
