"She was familiar with the person accused of doing this," said Steve Gahagans, director of the university's Police Department.

Police are investigating the report of a 2 a.m. assault that occurred about May 1, 2015, at the John A. White Jr. Engineering Hall, Gahagans said.

Neither the woman nor 24-year-old man are currently affiliated with the UA, said Gahagans, and the woman was not a student or otherwise affiliated with the university when she said the attack occurred.

Gahagans said police were conducting interviews as part of their investigation in the case.
