Achilles injury possible for TE

Arkansas State might have suffered one serious injury during its first scrimmage of fall camp.

Tight end Warren Leapheart caught a 24-yard pass from Justice Hansen on Saturday, but he finished watching the scrimmage on crutches. Coach Blake Anderson said the senior from Morrilton suffered a “potential Achilles’-type issue,” and will be evaluated further Monday. Anderson said they’ll know more Tuesday.

Leapheart was competing with Lonoke junior Blake Mack for the top tight end spot. Mack caught two touchdown passes during a red-zone portion of Saturday’s scrimmages.

Anderson said other injuries to players who sat out don’t seem serious. Senior safety Cody Brown watched the scrimmage with a wrap around his left knee and on crutches.

Anderson said Brown suffered a bruised kneecap in Friday’s practice, but that it isn’t feared serious.

Wide receiver Dijon Paschal was held out after suffering “full body cramps” this week, Anderson said. He is expected to return Monday or Tuesday.
