Big rig strikes bus; 2 students injured

A commercial truck hit a school bus Thursday morning, and two students were sent to the hospital, authorities said.

No one was seriously hurt, they said.

The crash happened shortly after 7:30 a.m. on U.S. 63 in Hazen, in Prairie County, east of Little Rock.

Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said the bus was stopped and picking up students when it was hit from behind by the 18-wheeler.

Two students complained of pain and had "what appeared to be minor injuries," Sadler said, noting that they were taken to a hospital.

There were 23 students of varying ages on the bus, said Nanette Belford, superintendent of the Hazen School District. The others were taken to school on another bus.
