Toddler dies after entering Sheridan pool; another hurt

Sheridan police said one toddler drowned and another is in a hospital Saturday after they ventured into a neighbor’s backyard pool.

Rob Adams, a spokesman for Sheridan police, said the two boys — both approximately 3 years old and cousins — left a house on Church Street and walked about 50 feet to the adjacent property where they climbed into the above-ground pool.

The boys likely exited through the back door, Adams said.

Adams said one child died while the other’s condition is presently unknown. He said it happened Saturday between 5:30 and 8 a.m.

The boys were under the care of a babysitter, Adams said, but that person didn’t notice the boys had gone. Adams said there was a deadbolt lock on the back door and the babysitter might’ve thought the boys couldn't reach it.
