Orchids

The Orchid Society of the Ozarks will meet at 1:30 p.m. today at Northwest Technical Institute, 709 S. Old Missouri Road in Springdale. The objective of the society is to stimulate interest in orchids and their culture. Monthly judging, raffles for members and occasional public auctions offer affordable orchids and supplies for new and experienced growers.

Ostomates

The Northwest Arkansas Ostomy Support Group will meet at 2 p.m. today at Hope Cancer Resources, 8535 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. The guest speaker this month will be Allen Morrison, a licensed professional counselor with Mercy Behavioral Health. There will also be an educational meeting from 1 to 2 p.m.

Cut-Ups

The Calico Cut-Ups will meet at 1 p.m. Monday in Becker Hall at the First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive in Bella Vista.

The speaker will be Jan Holzbauer talking about "My Journey as an Art Quilter." Her journey as an artist has been full of twists and turns. Her techniques and styles have changed through inspiration and influence of various teachers and experience. She will be speaking about this process and showing images portraying the evolution of her work through quilt displays and/or video demonstrations.

The vendor will be Bittersweet Quilts from Joplin, Mo., and fat quarter drawing will be leaves of any color. Donations to the Shepherd's Food Pantry at the Bella Vista Lutheran Church will be mashed potatoes in a box.

There will be a free workshop called "Stripping Diamonds" taught by Carol Bourque from 9 a.m.to noon the day of the meeting. Participants will need one jelly roll (36 coordinating strips 2.5" x 42"), a 3/4 yard coordinating fabric for set in triangles, 1/3 yard for 1" border and 1.25 yards for the outer border. Bring sewing machine, rotary cutter and a ruler that has a 60 degree angle on it and is at least 6.5-inches wide.

There will be a $5 guest speaker charge. New members are welcome.

Benton County Democrats

The Benton County Democrats will meet at noon Monday at the Golden Corral, 2605 W. Pleasant Crossing in Rogers. Lunch will begin at 11 a.m.

The featured speaker will be Dr. Xavier Medina Vidal, Blair Professor of Latino studies and assistant professor of political science at the University of Arkansas. He will speak on "Latinas/os and the 2016 Election."

The Kingsdale Squares will dance at 7 p.m. Monday at Riordan Hall in Bella Vista. Shane Greer will be calling. There will also be a plus workshop at 6:30 p.m.

Art Guild

Rogers Art Guild will meet at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Peace Lutheran Church at Olrich and Eighth streets in Rogers. The special program will be by Suzanne Guinn on color studies and how color influences how participants paint.

GOP Women

The Washington County Republican Women will meet Tuesday at Abba's House Coffee Shop, 2250 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. The social will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the business meeting at 6:30 p.m. Doyle Webb, state chairman of the Republican Party of Arkansas, will be the guest speaker.

Democrats

The Washington County Democratic Women will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mermaids Restaurant in Fayetteville. The featured speakers will be legislative candidates for the Arkansas House of Representatives, Susan K. McGaughey (District 81), David Whitaker (District 85) and Irvin Camacho (District 89).

The program is free and open to the public. Dinner is $16 and is optional.

Sunrise Rotary

The Bella Vista Sunrise Rotary Club will hold its breakfast meeting at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Concordia Retirement Center, 1 Concordia Drive. The speaker will be Jay Chalk, principal of Gravette High School.

Lymphedema

Hope Cancer Resources and Highlands Oncology Group offer a support group for patients and caregivers affected by lymphedema. The group meets at noon Wednesday at Highlands Oncology Group in Rogers. This group is co-facilitated by lymphedema professionals and an oncology social worker.

QUILT

Quilters United in Learning Together will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2898 S. 48th St. in Springdale.

Local quilter Paula Mariedaughter will present the program titled "Diagonal Designs Make Dynamic Quilts."

Photographers

The Photographic Society of Northwest Arkansas will hold a class "Introduction to the Exposure Triangle" from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the PSNWA Gallery & Studios, 126 W. Emma Ave. in Springdale.

Instructor Daryl Chappell will help participants go from "taking photos" to "creating images." The class is free to members or $10 for nonmembers.

Civil War Roundtable

The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the General Store at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, 118 W. Johnson Ave. in Springdale.

The program will be presented by Jamie Chad Brandon of Fayetteville, who will speak on the historical preservation and interpretive efforts during the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial.

Stage IV

Hope Cancer Resources offers a new support group for women living with any type of stage IV cancer. This month's meeting will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at Hope Cancer Resources in Springdale. Members must RSVP to attend.

Radio Club

The Bella Vista Radio Club will meet at 11 a.m. Sept. 1 at Highland Christian Church, 1500 Forest Hills Blvd. in Bella Vista. All licensed amateur radio enthusiasts or prospective hams are welcome.

Quilters

The Dogwood Quilters Guild of Siloam Springs invites all quilters to attend the 9:30 a.m. Sept. 3 meeting. Gay Cooper, a fabric representative of Stof Fabrics, will be the guest speaker.

Music Club

"New Beginnings" is the theme for the Sept. 6 Andante Music Club meeting. The meeting will be held at noon at the Highland Christian Church, 1500 Forest Hills Blvd. in Bella Vista. A salad and dessert lunch will be served at noon followed by the performance of Samantha Akers, violinist. Everyone is welcome.

The Andante Music Club is affiliated with the Arkansas and the National Music Clubs.

Line Dance Club

The Line Dance Club will hold a beginners class from 12:45 to 2:45 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays beginning Sept. 7 at Riordan Hall in Bella Vista. Registration fee for the class is $20 for supplies. If participants who do not have a Bella Vista photo ID, they will pay Riordan Hall $2.25 per class.

The class will be taught by Kristine Schaap, who has taught the beginners for several years. As new dancers, participants will have the opportunity to learn line dancing steps and dances that use these steps, receive handouts, lots of practice and personal attention.

Ark-Oma

The Ark-Oma Square Dance Club is sponsoring a square dance class from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 10 at Salem Lutheran Church, 1800 W. Emma Ave. in Springdale. The class runs for 11 weeks, and the first lesson is free. Couples and singles are welcome; partners will be provided for singles. No experience is necessary.

Artists

The Bella Vista Decorative Artists will hold a Mad Hatter Card and Game Party from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Bella Vista Assembly of God, 1771 Forrest Hills Blvd. Lunch will be provided. The cost is $12 per person, and groups may call and reserve a table to play cards or a game for four people.

The club meets each month for a painting session, and also has the following service projects: Village House in Bella Vista, Operation Reboot and the veteran hotel in Hiwasse.

CLIMB

Children's Lives Include Moments of Bravery is a six-week family support group for children whose parent or loved one has cancer. The first meeting of the fall program is Sept. 20 at Hope Cancer Resources in Springdale. Registration is required.

Legion 77

Bentonville American Legion Post 77 meets at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at the Masonic Lodge, 805 NW Eighth St. in Bentonville. A light dinner is served at 6 p.m.

Post 77 hosts "A Veterans Coffee" from 9 a.m. to noon the fourth Saturday of each month at the Center for Nonprofits at St. Mary's building, 1200 W. Walnut St. in Rogers, on the first floor. All veterans are invited.
