Agriculture school in Arkansas town proposed

JONESBORO — The creation of an agriculture school in the Poinsett County town of Weiner has been proposed.

The Jonesboro Sun reports that resident Greta Greeno has been leading the pitch to start a pilot School of Agriculture in the town of about 760. Greeno says the school would put a K-12 school district back in Weiner, while also preparing students for jobs across the Delta region.

Greeno recently met with representatives of the Department of Education, the Department of Career Tech Education and the attorney general's office to work on issues with a senate bill related to the agriculture school.

Greeno says there's some confusion about the composition of a governing board under the bill, and the definition of a school board.

Greeno hopes to be ready to start classes for the 2017-18 school year.
