Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg of Germany, left, smiles as he walks at the Belgian Formula One Grand Prix circuit in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016. The Belgium Formula One Grand Prix will be held on Sunday.

Nico Rosberg won an incident-packed Belgian Grand Prix featuring a chaotic start, wild overtaking, a heavy crash, safety cars and a red flag. The Mercedes driver’s victory Sunday saw him close the gap on teammate Lewis Hamilton, who finished third behind Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo. Rosberg started from pole position with teen driver Max Verstappen on the front row. Hamilton started from the back row with Fernando Alonso, after both incurred multiple grid penalties for extra engine part changes this weekend. Verstappen was involved in a first-turn collision with both Ferraris that shaped the race. It had a beneficial effect on Hamilton and Alonso, who avoided the early carnage in front of them, then gained places when the safety car came out after Danish driver Kevin Magnussen’s crash.

2 charged in Chicago shooting

Two brothers have been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of the cousin of NBA star Dwyane Wade as she was walking to register her children for school, Chicago police announced Sunday. Darwin Sorrells Jr. and Derren Sorrells, 22, also were charged with attempted murder in Friday’s shooting. Nykea Aldridge, a 32-year-old mother of four, was pushing her baby in a stroller near the school when two men walked up and fired shots at a third man but hit Aldridge in the head and arm. Police say she wasn’t the intended target, and the baby was not injured. Police say the suspects in the shooting have criminal records. Authorities are investigating whether the encounter between the men was a robbery, possibly involving a driver from a ridesharing company, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Saturday. Wade, whose charitable organization, Wade’s World Foundation, does community outreach in the Chicago area, signed with the Chicago Bulls in July after 13 years with the Miami Heat. He and his mother, pastor Jolinda Wade, participated Thursday via satellite in a town hall meeting in Chicago on gun violence hosted by ESPN.

Orioles re-sign Hunter

The Baltimore Orioles have signed right-hander Tommy Hunter, bringing him back for a sixth consecutive season. The Orioles announced the move before Sunday’s game against the New York Yankees. They also recalled righty Oliver Drake from Class AAA Norfolk and designated lefty T.J. McFarland and outfielder Julio Borbon for assignment. Hunter was 2-2 with a 3.74 ERA in 21 games for Cleveland this season. He was in the minors rehabbing a recent back injury when the Indians cut him Thursday. Hunter, 30, played for Baltimore from 2011-2015, going 21-20 with a 4.22 ERA. Manager Buck Showalter said Hunter brought a lot of experience, having spent so much time in the AL East. “Felt fortunate to add him at this time of year,” Showalter said. Drake has pitched 4 games for Baltimore this year, giving up 6 earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. McFarland was 2-2 with a 6.93 ERA in 16 games. Borbon went 4 for 13 in 6 games.

Zardes to miss Cup qualifiers

Midfielder Gyasi Zardes will miss the United States’ upcoming World Cup qualifiers after he was injured during a Major League Soccer game. Already missing forward Clint Dempsey as he undergoes evaluations for an irregular heartbeat, the Americans won’t have Zardes for their final two games of the CONCACAF semifinals. Coach Jurgen Klinsmann is mostly sticking with the squad that finished fourth in the Centennial Copa America this summer. Jordan Morris, 21, was added to the 26-man roster announced Sunday after he wasn’t picked for the Copa team. Forward Rubio Rubin, 20, also was brought in to get a look in practice. Klinsmann plans to bring only 23 players on the road when the Americans face St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Friday. The U.S. then hosts Trinidad and Tobago in Jacksonville, Fla., on Sept. 6.

Irishman released in Rio

Brazilian officials say an Irish businessman arrested at the beginning of the Rio Games in a ticket-scalping probe has been released on bail. Rio’s department of penitentiaries said Sunday that Kevin Mallon left the Bangu prison complex late Saturday on condition that he doesn’t leave Brazil. Investigators are still building a case against Mallon that also involves the president of the Olympic Council of Ireland, Patrick Hickey. The OCI leader was arrested on Aug. 17 in his hotel room. Mallon is the head of the British ticket and hospitality provider THG Sports. He was arrested with hundreds of tickets, including some that were officially allocated to Ireland’s committee. Police believe sports executives and businessmen plotted to transfer the tickets illegally and set high fees disguised as hospitality packages.

Coach, on leave, resigns

Texas Woman’s University volleyball coach Shelly Barberee has resigned after being on personal leave when eight players got sick and were hospitalized for muscle issues. The Denton Record-Chronicle reports Barberee went on unspecified family leave Aug. 12. Barberee, who spent 13 seasons as head coach, was on leave when workouts began the week of Aug. 15. She learned about the sick players through social media and said her resignation, announced Saturday, is not connected to the incident. Eight players were hospitalized with rhabdomyolysis, a syndrome in which muscle tissue breaks down and enters the bloodstream. School officials believe the illnesses were linked to dehydration and overexertion. TWU officials haven’t said who led practices. One player remained hospitalized over the weekend. Assistant coach Jessica Beener was named interim head coach.

New York wins Little League World Series

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Ryan Harlost led Endwell, N.Y., to the Little League World Series title, striking out 8 and limiting South Korea to 5 hits in 6 innings in a 2-1 victory Sunday.

Endwell became the first U.S. winner since Huntington Beach, Calif., in 2011, and gave New York its first championship since 1964.

Conner Rush had the New York team’s only RBI to give Endwell a lead. Harlost (2-0) scored the deciding run on a passed ball a batter later.

“I was just thinking get it in play any way you can,” Rush said. “Once that happens, you never know what can happen.”

Yoomin Lee hit a home run for the Asia-Pacific champs from Seoul. Minho Choi struck out with runners on first and second to end the game.

Junho Jeong (1-2) gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and struck out 9 for South Korea (4-2). He threw 31/3 innings of no-hit ball before Jude Abbadessa broke through in the fourth.

Walking to the plate as Endwell fans along the first base side bellowed “Juuude!” Abbadessa broke up the righty’s no-hit bid with a single to center. Harlost followed with a liner to the same spot and Rush knocked in the go-ahead run with a hit that fell in behind the shortstop. Harlost raced home on a passed ball to give New York a 2-0 lead one batter later.

Lee drove a 2-2 pitch over the right field wall to cut New York’s lead in half in the fifth.

In the second, right fielder James Fellows made a running grab at the warning track to take and extra-base hit away from Sangheon Park.

With a runner on first an inning later, Harlost snagged a hardhit liner at the mound, tossed to first to get the putout and escape the third unscathed.

Later in the fifth after Yoomin’s home run made it 2-1, Abbadessa scooped up a grounder that took an awkward bounce and threw to first for final out of the inning.

Esmith Pineda hit a game-winning home run to lead Panama to a 3-2 comeback victory over Goodlettsville, Tenn., in Sunday’s consolation game.
