Police: Man involved in 38 spray-painting incidents in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE -- A man was arrested in connection with 38 incidents of spray-painting throughout the city, said Sgt. Craig Stout, police spokesman.

Lessley Carroll, 37, of 1936 A W. Mitchell St., was arrested Nov. 30 and charged with one count of criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.

If convicted of the one count, Carroll could serve a maximum of one year in jail plus fines of up to $2,500. He could face charges for each of the incidents. Other counts may be lesser misdemeanors and carry lower fines and less jail time, Nikki Rankin-Laird, legal assistant at the city prosecutor's office, wrote in an email.

Police said Carroll spray-painted a city pole, part of a vehicle and sidewalk on Aug. 15, according to an affidavit of complaint released Monday. Carroll washed off most of the paint from the pole and vehicle, leaving some on the sidewalk, the report shows.

The investigation into the other spray-painting incidents is ongoing, Rankin-Laird said. One of those includes paint on Razorback Regional Greenway trail earlier this year, Stout said.

Carroll was released from the Washington County Detention Center with a $2,000 bond the same day as his arrest. Carroll has a district court date set for Jan. 9 for the one count, according to online jail records.
