Eateries offer food drop-off sites for drive

The Little Rock School District has joined with a group of central Arkansas restaurants to collect nonperishable food items that will be distributed to students and families in need in the Little Rock School District.

The Restaurants Give Back holiday food drive is the result of a meeting this week of Little Rock Superintendent Michael Poore, Little Rock City Director Kathy Webb and City Director-elect Capi Peck as well as the new Little Rock Kitchen Cabinet. Both Peck and Webb are affiliated with the food industry in Little Rock.

Donations of food items to benefit students and their families will be collected at participating restaurants today through Thursday.

The participating restaurants are Trio's, U.S. Pizza, South on Main, Cajun's Wharf, Big Whiskey's, Copper Grill, Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken at the River Market, Capers, Whole Hog in North Little Rock, Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Lost 40, ZaZa's, Local Lime, Big Orange, Heights Taco and Tamale, The 1836 Club, Firehouse Subs, Chick-fil-A, The Root Cafe and Copeland's.

Desired food items include canned meats, canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned and packaged meals, peanut butter, pasta, pasta sauces, cereal, soup and juices. Organizers of the drive ask that no items packaged in glass jars be donated. Monetary donations are accepted.
