Transit app offers live updates, maps

Rock Region Metro's new mobile tracking app is now available for the transit agency's bus riders.

The METROtrack mobile app, which is available for download for free on both Apple and Android smart phones, offers real-time bus arrival information; live route maps; a search for stops, routes and addresses; the ability to mark favorite stops and set reminders for stops; and access to maps and schedules, park/bike and ride information, fare and pass information and news, the agency said in a news release Monday.

The app became available a week after Rock Region debuted its new website, rrmetro.org, where the app is available for download. The app also can be downloaded at Apple's App Store or Google Play.

The availability of the app marks the last implementation phase of the agency's intelligent transportation system that provides real-time arrival information through a bus stop sign texting system, live maps at rrmetro.org and the METROtrack mobile app. All agency buses also are equipped with free Wi-Fi.

"With the METROtrack app, our riders have up-to-the-minute bus arrival information and the ability to customize the app to easily track their regular stops," Jarod Varner, executive director for Rock Region, said in the release.

Rock Region serves nearly 3 million passengers per year in Little Rock, North Little Rock, Maumelle, Jacksonville and Sherwood and Pulaski County. Created in 1986 under an interlocal agreement among the partner jurisdictions, Rock Region is governed by a 12-member board of directors who are appointed by its cities and county.
