**Things to like

***Plenty to like

****Confident choice

1 Purse $21,000, 6 furlongs, 3-yearolds and up which have never won two races, claiming $7,500

APOCALYPSE** finished a competitive third at a higher level three races back at Keeneland and has been unfortunate to catch a wet track in two subsequent races. EXPECT GREATNESS easily defeated $10,000 maiden-claimers at two turns, and he was claimed by a sharp stable and is cutting back to a sprint distance. SUBSTITUTE has competed at a much higher level throughout his six-race career, while earning Beyer figures that are fast enough to put him right there at the finish.

2 Purse $21,000, 6 furlongs, 4-yearolds and up, claiming $5,000

BIG SUGARUSH** was beating up on better competition at Remington Park. He consistently earns the field’s fastest Beyer figures and is the one to beat if he holds form for new connections. BANK ACCOUNT is a 17-time winner who was beaten by a nose in his last start at Hawthorne, and he is capable of running his race from on or off of the early pace. ASK SIMON has been consistently good when running at this $5,000 claiming price, and he was a clear winner when last ridden by Ramon Vazquez.

3 Purse $27,000, 6 furlongs, fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up, maiden claiming $35,000

GRANDDAUGHTER* is an unraced filly with a speedy pedigree. She has shown encouraging 5-furlong workouts dating back to September and trainer Al Stall Jr. has won with three of his first six starters at the meeting. LISA’S THE BOSS may have tipped her hand in a bullet gate workout Dec. 17 at Churchill, and trainer Ingrid Mason knows how to win with a first-time starter. ME TOO was narrowly defeated while 6 lengths clear of third in her 2016 debut, and she may be sharp enough to move up in price and win.

4 Purse $25,000, 1 1/16 miles, 4-year-olds and up, claiming $12,500

BAD STUDENT** was compromised by an extreme outside post when finishing a strong third opening weekend, and the four-time winner last season drew the rail and should work out an ideal trip. SHAKE UP is in good sprint form and the proven two-turn runner is strictly the one to catch. TENS WILD was overmatched in his Oaklawn debut, and a return to the form he showed at Hawthorne will make him a major threat.

SUBTLE INDIAN*** has won three of four races at Oaklawn, including a stakes race. He was impressive in his return and may be cruising on an uncontested early lead. WILBO is quickly climbing the class ladder with three consecutive victories, and he is a lightly raced four-year-old who is eligible to continue his upward trajectory. A M MILKY WAY has won two sprint stakes since finishing second in the 2015 Bachelor at Oaklawn.

6 Purse $24,000, 1 1/8 miles, 4-yearolds and up, starter allowance ECLETO RED** is taking a significant drop in class following consecutive fourth-place finishes at the meet. He possesses good early speed and loves to win races. DIVINE THUNDER was a clear winner at this same class and distance just two weeks back, and the one-time sprinter has shown big improvement since given a chance to route. GOLDEN FRONTIER was pressured through a fast early pace in a strong runner-up finish, and he has been able to rate and still produce his best.

CAN’T BE DAZZLED** pressed the pace while parked wide before quickly drawing clear in a maiden allowance victory. Tactical speed will have her in position to win turning into the stretch. PURIM’S DANAWA has three disappointing route races clouding the fact she has sprinted very effectively and Hall of Fame rider Calvin Borel knows her well. SOUTH WIMBLEDON may be the speed of the speed, and she has raced well in two previous local races for winning connections.

GET JETS**** is a stakes winning colt who was only a neck from being unbeaten as a 2-year-old., and the New York shipper shows promising local works for a stable that knows how to handle a quality colt. GRAY SKY drew an outside post when beaten by less than 4 lengths in the Smarty Jones, and the well-bred colt is improving with every race. DAZZLING GEM looked talented in a two-turn debut victory, and subsequent breezes have been sharp and he may be up to the task.

COUGAR RIDGE** is a multiple-stakes winner who is riding a four-race winning streak. He ships from Delta after winning the $250,000 Delta Mile, and his Oaklawn works are encouraging. CARVE finished second behind a very nice horse in the 2015 Oaklawn Handicap and the freshened runner won his seasonal debut last season when winning the Fifth Season. AIN’T GOT TIME, from the Tim Ritchey stable, possesses enough early speed to lead this field wire to wire, and the defection of Bob Baffert-trained Midnight Hawk won’t hurt his chances.

CATAROUX* is a first-timer with a string of swift workouts. He is bred for speed and trainer Randy Morse hits at a good percentage with this kind. ENTERTAINER was a clear second in a full field of 12 in his local debut, and he has been consistently competitive in his main track races while earning competitive Beyer figures. BEAT GOES ON finished with energy when crossing the wire one position behind the second selection, and the beaten post-time favorite is making only his third race and has room for noticeable improvement.

Exotic possibilities

Big profits can be gained by “keying” a non-favorite in multi-horse wagers like Granddaughter in the third. Several fillies can be used underneath and know it is more profitable to use more upset runners in the place spot because most players put logical runners in the twohole and long shots in the third spot. The 50-cent Late Pick-4 begins in the seventh and the first leg has limited contention, and the eighth may have a “single” in Get Jets. The ninth race appears a threehorse race and the wager finishes with a wide-open 10th race.
