A Forrest City native who competed in the 2014 Miss America pageant remains in critical condition after her convertible spun off a highway in New Jersey, according to state police.

Lt. Brian Polite with New Jersey State Police said Cara McCollum, 24, of Margate, N.J., remained hospitalized as of Wednesday afternoon after authorities say she lost control of her vehicle while driving too fast in wet travel conditions.

McCollum was traveling northbound on New Jersey 55 in Pittsgrove Township, N.J., on Monday night when her car veered off the road, causing it to spin and hit a number of trees before coming to a stop in a nearby embankment, The Associated Press previously reported.

She was alone in the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Pittsgrove Township is about 70 miles southwest of New Jersey's capital city, Trenton, and about 40 miles south of Philadelphia.

Additional information regarding McCollum's injuries has not been released.
