Arkansas Index slips 0.22 to 52-week low

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, fell 0.22 to 293.47 Tuesday.

The index again reached a 52-week low in trading.

"The major averages fluctuated for much of the session as optimism surrounding further Chinese stimulus measures was tempered by the continued descent in oil prices," said Bob Williams, senior vice president and managing director of Simmons First Investment Group Inc. in Little Rock.

Windstream fell over 6.5 percent on strong volume, Williams said.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
