Police: Thief seized after toppling girl, 7

Home Depot employees detained a man who tried to steal more than $700 worth of power tools from the store on Mabelvale Plaza Lane in Little Rock on Sunday evening.

Jake Johnson, 33, of Hensley tried to walk out of the store without paying for merchandise in his arms, according to a police report.

Home Depot employee Brian Grishby, 27, confronted Johnson, who ran, the report said. Grishby and another employee, Justin Loyd, 28, pursued Johnson who turned around and punched Loyd in the face, causing a small wound on his forehead, the report stated.

Johnson also knocked a 7-year-old girl to the ground while fleeing, but the two Home Depot employees caught him and held him until police arrived, the report said.

He was arrested and charged with robbery, third-degree battery, theft of property, and possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver after officers found methamphetamine on Johnson, according to the report.
