A shooting Wednesday morning left a person dead and the Mountain Pine police chief injured near Jessieville, the Sentinel-Record in Hot Springs reported.

Chad King was responding to a criminal trespass call in the Little Blakely Creek Road area when he encountered the person, whose identity has not been released, driving a dark gray van, according to the newspaper.

King is listed as Mountain Pine's police chief on the Arkansas Municipal League's website.

The Sentinel-Record reported that a confrontation ensued that resulted in King being shot in the leg. His injuries were described as not life-threatening, witnesses said.

King, who is also a commissioned Garland County sheriff's deputy, was transported to a local hospital, according to the newspaper.
