VIDEO: 1 Arkansan moves forward, another sent home on 'American Idol'

The first round of American Idol's Hollywood Week, which aired Wednesday night, had one hopeful from northwest Arkansas moving forward in the competition and another from the southwest corner of the state heading back home.

Thomas Stringfellow, 17, performed a rendition of Alex Clare's "Too Close" for his second performance in front of the judges, this time taking the stage in Hollywood as the show narrowed down its field of contestants using "lines of 10."

The "lines of 10" allow judges to work in sections of 10 contestants who are lined up on stage after their performances and either move forward or are eliminated based on consideration for vocals and stage presence.

Half of the contestants brought to Hollywood after auditions across the U.S. were eliminated at the close of the first round of Hollywood Week, according to the show.

"This is a make-or-break moment," Stringfellow said during the episode. "I'm singing against the best of America and, if I nail this, it means I can possibly win American Idol. And, if I don't, it's over."

Stringfellow initially won over the judges with his rendition of Ed Sheeran's "Give Me Love" at the Little Rock auditions in August.

Nashville resident Ethan Kuntz's performance during Hollywood Week fell short, and the teenager from southwest Arkansas was sent home.

Kuntz, 15, sang a rendition of the Allman Brothers' "Stormy Monday" in Little Rock last summer to secure a ticket to the Hollywood rounds.

The second round of Hollywood Week on American Idol, in the show's 15th and final season, airs at 7 p.m. Thursday on Fox.
