FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas wouldn't let Texas A&M enjoy its highest ranking in basketball for long.

The Razorbacks beat the No. 5 Aggies 74-71 Wednesday night in Walton Arena before an announced crowd of 10,548.

Texas A&M (17-3, 7-1 SEC) had its winning streak end at 10 games two days after moving from No. 10 to No. 5 in The Associated Press poll.

Dusty Hannahs hit two free throws with 6.4 seconds left to give the Razorbacks a 74-71 lead, then watched as Aggies 6-8 freshman DJ Hogg missed a three-point attempt over 6-4 freshman Jimmy Whitt.

The ball bounced off the rim as time expired.

Considering the Razorbacks had been 1-6 in games decided by five or fewer points, Hannahs said he wasn't sure what to think on the final play.

"I was just hoping he didn't make it," Hannahs said. "When he let it go, it's almost like with our luck, it would have hit the shot clock and went in. But it didn't."

It was Hogg's first three-point attempt of the game. He's now 28 of 86 for the season.

"He's a really good shooter, and he got a good look," Texas A&M Coach Billy Kennedy said. "He just missed it."

The Razorbacks did a good job on the last possession of covering senior guard Danuel House, who led the Aggies with 24 points and hit 4 of 6 three-pointers.

"Kudos to our guys," Arkansas Coach Mike Anderson said. "I thought we came out with great energy, and we finished the game with great heart."

All of the Razorbacks' close losses have been away from Walton Arena.

"That three would have went in had they been on the road," Kennedy said of Hogg's last-second shot.

Junior forward Moses Kingsley had 18 points and 11 rebounds to help Arkansas (10-10, 4-4) snap a three-game losing streak.

"We knew we needed this game," Kingsley said.

The Razorbacks beat a top-five ranked team for the first time since an 80-69 victory over Florida on Feb. 5, 2013.

Hannahs, a junior guard from Little Rock, and Razorbacks senior guard Anthlon Bell each scored 17 points.

"I know it's painful to watch, but it's even more painful to be a part of when you come up so short," Hannahs said of enduring the close losses. "To be able to come out here and beat a team that's as good as Texas A&M, it really helps everybody.

"We're just going to use this to propel us forward and keep getting games that are close and taking them our way instead of the other way."

Hannahs hit an off-balance 15-foot jumper over Admon Gilder after taking an inbounds pass from Jabril Durham with three seconds on the shot clock to give the Razorbacks a 69-64 lead with 2:28 left.

The Aggies closed within 72-71 on two free throws by House with 7.3 seconds remaining.

After Hannahs' free throws pushed Arkansas' lead back to three points, Anderson instructed the Razorbacks not to put the Aggies on the line with a foul.

"I wanted us to guard them," Anderson said. "Our guys did a good job of being with all the shooters."

Bell credited his team with cutting down mental errors that had been plaguing them at key moments.

"We know we've just got to keep at it," Bell said. "We made plays down the stretch and got stops and rebounded the ball. That helped us get the win."

Kennedy praised Anderson for keeping the Razorbacks focused and together after so many agonizing losses.

"You can tell they've got good character with their team, good kids," Kennedy said. "Over the course of the long run, you win games with good kids.

"I thought they stuck together and hung tough. Their character showed in this game."

Anderson appreciated Kennedy's comments.

"They haven't wavered any moment," Anderson said. "It's good to see these guys be rewarded for staying true to each other.

"This was a team win."

The Razorbacks forced the Aggies into a season-high 21 turnovers and outscored the Aggies 40-36 on points in the paint as they avenged a 92-69 loss at Texas A&M to open SEC play.

"We didn't make them uncomfortable at A&M," Bell said. "They did whatever they wanted.

"We tried to play their game. Tonight, we wanted to push the ball any time we could and try to get easy buckets, and if not, execute and try to work through Mo, inside out, and that worked to our advantage."

Kennedy said the Aggies played like a different team Wednesday night compared with their first game against the Razorbacks.

"I think Arkansas had something to do with it here at their place," he said. "This place is the toughest place to play in our league. You've got to give them credit."

Anderson said the Razorbacks did a good job in the hustle areas, getting to loose balls, taking four charges and being aggressive going to the basket.

"We didn't lose our poise," Anderson said. "That's what I was really happy with this with team tonight.

"We've been getting to the finish line, we just haven't been finishing. Tonight we finished against an outstanding team."
