A Rogers man died Monday after diving into Beaver Lake to untangle anchor lines, according to the Carroll County sheriff's office.

Hayden Greenway, 21, was in a boat with friends between Starkey Marina and the Beaver Lake dam.

The boat's anchor line became entangled with the one from another boat. Two men dove into the water to untangle the lines, but Greenway didn't resurface, said Lt. Jerry Reddick with the sheriff's office.

Greenway's body was found about four hours later in 40 feet of water, Reddick said. Greenway wasn't entangled in the anchor lines or anything else when his body was found, Reddick said.

There were eight witnesses at the scene.

Greenway was a sophomore biology major at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, according to UA's online directory. UA spokesman Steve Voorhies confirmed that Greenway was a student there.

Greenway's body has been sent to the state medical examiner's office for autopsy.

Reddick said there was no evidence that alcohol was a factor. He said Greenway's death appears to be the first drowning on Beaver Lake this year.

Greenway was a 2013 graduate of Rogers Heritage High School, said Ashley Siwiec, a spokesman for the Rogers School District.
