Young Millie

An ambitious young woman in 1922 finds her plan to move to New York and marry a millionaire goes slightly awry in Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr., an adaptation of the stage musical and Oscar-winning film (new music by Jeanine Tesori, new lyrics by Dick Scanlan, book by Scanlan and Richard Henry Morris, based on the Richard Morris screenplay), which two casts of Benton’s Young Players will stage at 7 p.m. today-Friday, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Royal Theatre, 111 S. Band blast

The North Little Rock Community Concert Band will let loose a musical “Blast From the Past,” 7:30 p.m. Friday under the big canopy at Lakewood Village, McCain Boulevard between North Hills Boulevard and Fairway Avenue, North Little Rock. Music Director Rico Belotti will conduct “Tara’s Theme” from Gone With the Wind; medleys from the musical Brigadoon, turn-of-the-20th-century tunes called Themes Like Old Times and ’60s tunes titled Sixties Gold; and marches by Henry Fillmore, K.L. Fairy-tale trial

The Big Bad Wolf (Charlie Groves) faces a class-action lawsuit from the fairy-tale characters he has wronged, with the Evil Stepmother (Ally Young) and the Fairy Godmother (Jeannie Shipley) as the attorneys squaring off for the trial in Big Bad by Alec Strum. The ACT 2! Community Theater Group will stage the courtroom comedy (under the Arts Council of Mississippi County’s umbrella) at 7 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ritz Civic Center, 306 W. The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program “Walks Through History” will tour the Arkansas Tuberculosis Sanatorium Historic District in Booneville, 11 a.m. Saturday starting at the Nyberg Building, 87 Reed Road, Booneville. Co-sponsors for the two-hour tour are the Booneville Historical Preservation Society and the Arkansas Tuberculosis Sanatorium Museum. Admission is free.
