Manufacturing-job academy set to start

Arkansas State University-Mountain Home will host the Young Manufacturers Academy Aug. 1-5 at the school's Technical Center.

The academy is a statewide program sponsored by the Gene Haas Foundation, Lennox Industries, Entergy Arkansas, the Albemarle Foundation and the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce. It is designed for students interested in manufacturing careers.

Students entering grades 7-9 from Mountain Home, Norfork, Cotter, Yellville and Flippin schools are eligible to participate. Field trips to local manufacturers will be included as part of the academy.

Manufacturing academies are part of the "Dream It. Do It. Arkansas" program, designed "to address the critical shortage of qualified workers."

For more information on the academy, contact either Peg Spiegel at (870) 508-6106 or Janel Cotter at (870) 508-6133. Spiegel can be reached at pspiegel@asumh.edu, and Cotter's email is jcotter@asumh.edu.
