Council approves purchase of land for Arkansas city's sign

JONESBORO — The Jonesboro City Council has approved the purchase of a small tract of land for the city's "Welcome to Jonesboro" sign.

Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin said the city needs to move the sign from its current location because the landowner wanted to charge a monthly fee for its placement. Perrin told Jonesboro television station KAIT that the sign will be moved a few miles away to an area on Arkansas 18 near the city limits.

The city will pay $15,000 for the land.
