BENTONVILLE -- Octavio Sanchez will run for re-election for the City Council Ward 4, Position 1, seat.

Sanchez was a member of the Bentonville Public Library Advisory Board from 2007 to 2014 and is an ex-officio member.

He has been the treasurer of College Place Subdivision's Architectural Control Committee since 2009 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church's Board of Trustees from 2009 to 2011.

Sanchez is a civil engineer, with a master's degree in information systems. He is a certified information systems security professional.

He is a former professor of mathematics, engineering and computer science and the author of a textbook on probability and statistics.

Sanchez has been working as a database administrator for more than 25 years for Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

He said his biggest surprise since taking office is the variety and complexity of items that are part of life in Bentonville, which demand more time than he had initially estimated, but he is happy his analytical capabilities are being put to good use.

Sanchez said by having visited and lived in many cities nationally and internationally, he has learned some virtues that can be imitated and problems that should be avoided.

"The real challenge is maintaining the beauty of a small city in a growing environment," he said.
