Little Rock firefighters worked Wednesday afternoon to put out a fire at a home near Arkansas Children's Hospital.

There were no initial reports of injuries, and a spokesman with the Little Rock Fire Department said it was not immediately clear if the home in the 2100 block of Maryland Avenue is occupied.

Reports of the fire came in about 12:35 p.m. Less than a half hour later, smoke was still billowing from near the roof line of the one-story structure, but there were no visible flames.

Department spokesman Jacob Lear-Sadowsky said the house had electricity connected to it, but no gas.

A home next door was also burned, with a legal notice marking its unsafe condition posted near the wide-open front door.

Firefighters had extinguished that blaze recently, Lear-Sadowsky said.

A third house on 10th Street behind the two houses on Maryland Avenue was also collapsed from damage sustained in an earlier fire.

The fire marshall had not yet begun an investigation on Wednesday's fire as of 1 p.m.
