Road in Springdale to face traffic stops

Overhead bridge work on the new U.S. 412 bypass will require traffic stops on Wagon Wheel Road in Springdale for 15-minute periods on Wednesday and Friday, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

The work was scheduled to be completed today but was extended because of weather, the department said.

Traffic may be stopped periodically during the day between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and overnight between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., periods outside of peak travel hours, the department said.

Traffic on Wagon Wheel Road will be stopped before reaching the work zone. U.S. 412 crosses Wagon Wheel Road in the area between Arrowhead Cove and North 64th Street. Warning signs will be placed to notify traffic approaching the closure, the department said.

The work is part of a $100.6 million project to construct about 4 miles of the new four-lane U.S. 412 northern bypass from Interstate 49 to Arkansas 12. The bypass is designed to provide a principal east-west route north of the Springdale metropolitan area.
