Helpful Hints

DEAR HELOISE: I'm writing to you about using the internet for solving problems. My son, who is a homeowner, has made several videos on home and vehicle repairs to help those in need.

He has received many "thank-yous" from people telling him how he has saved them money. He also has monetized them, and after so many videos, he is actually getting paid.

Just saying, if one needs help, check out videos on the internet. It can be a very profitable endeavor.

DEAR READER: With the internet available to so many, and so many ideas and hints floating out there, "monetizing" (which, in simple terms, is a way of turning a talent or skill into money) is definitely an option for people who think and do like your son.

If you're interested and would love to work from home, start with a web search on "monetize."

DEAR HELOISE: I am a frequent flier, and I'd like to tell other fliers to take their carry-on luggage with them to wherever they are going to sit. If they have to put it in the overhead bin, remind them to put it in the bins near where they'll be sitting.

I've seen people load their luggage in the front bins and then walk all the way to the back of the plane to sit. I don't understand the reasoning behind this. Maybe they think they're saving time, since it's the last thing they'll pick up before deplaning.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's observed this kind of boarding procedure, so I have to ask, What's to prevent someone else from walking off the plane with their luggage?

DEAR READERS: If you've not been to the library lately because you go only when you vote, give yourself a treat and check out what they make available.

It's a great way to get your children involved in the "library scene," and another alternative when looking for something to do with guests. Try it ... you just might like it.

DEAR HELOISE: I know you have published many uses for wooden clothespins. Here's my favorite: I glued one at eye level inside the cabinet door next to my stove. It's the perfect place to hold a recipe while I cook.
