Police: Arkansas man fatally shot during fight with ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend

A 44-year-old man was fatally shot during an altercation Wednesday afternoon with his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend in Pine Bluff, according to police.

Authorities said James Murry was pronounced dead at a local hospital as medical personnel were preparing to take him in a helicopter to UAMS Medical Center, shortly after he was listed in "very critical condition."

In a statement Wednesday afternoon, police said they responded to the shooting at 12:21 p.m. in the 300 block of West 15th Street.

A witness at the scene said he heard a pop and went outside to see Murry lying on the front porch of a home on 15th Street with the new boyfriend, Aaron "KC" Crift, 34, of Pine Bluff, standing over him with a pistol.

Crift fled the scene in a vehicle in a white Jeep SUV, according to another witness. Police initiated a traffic stop in the 1200 block of 14th Street on a vehicle matching that description, at which point Crift jumped from the SUV and ran into a home.

He was taken into custody a short time later and was set to be booked into the Jefferson County jail Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Wednesday's homicide was the fifth reported in Pine Bluff this year and the second reported this week.
