Ex-girlfriend set afire; man in Blytheville faces charges

BLYTHEVILLE -- A Blytheville man was charged with attempted murder, domestic battery and violation of a no-contact order Monday after, police said, he set fire to his ex-girlfriend.

Kordarro Woodard, 25, was being held in the Mississippi County jail in Luxora in lieu of $150,000 bond.

He is charged with burning Martha George, 37, on Sunday. She is listed in critical condition at Regional One Burn Unit in Memphis, Tenn., Blytheville police Capt. Scott Adams said.

Police were sent to 624 E. Cherry St. on Sunday after receiving a call of a disturbance at the residence.

Adams said officers reported seeing smoke coming from inside the home and hearing screams for help. They found George sitting in the shower suffering from burns on her upper and lower body.

Medical personnel said George had burns on 80 percent of her body.

Woodard was arrested when he arrived at the home later that night, Adams said. Adams said officers could smell gasoline on Woodard's clothing.
