Contestants to compete for Miss Arkansas

Several young women with ties to the Three Rivers Edition’s coverage area will compete in the annual Miss Arkansas Scholarship Pageant from July 3-9 at the Bank of the Ozarks Arena in the Hot Springs Convention Center. Contestants will arrive during a public ceremony at 2 p.m. July 3 in Horner Hall at the convention center.

Preliminary competitions will be held at 7 p.m. July 6-8 with the final competition and crowning set to begin at 7 p.m. July 9. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Preliminary awards will be made in artistic expression (talent), lifestyle and fitness (swimsuit), and presence and poise (evening gown).

Miss Arkansas State University

Bailey Moses of Cabot is the 21-year-old daughter of Jeff and Marsha Moses.

She will perform a contemporary tap dance to “Story of My Life” for her talent, and her platform is “Suitcases for Kids: Advocacy for Foster Care Children.”

A senior majoring in strategic communications with a double emphasis in public relations and social media management with a minor in marketing at ASU in Jonesboro, she will compete in interview on the evening of July 5, lifestyle and fitness July 6, presence and poise/on-stage question July 7, and artistic expression July 8.

Miss Batesville

Reagan Wheelis of Melbourne is the 19-year-old daughter of Brad and Tina Wheelis.

She will perform “El Cumbana Medley” on the piano for her talent, and her platform is “Breast Cancer Awareness: Early Detection is Key.”

A sophomore majoring in accounting at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, she will compete in interview July 4, artistic expression July 6, lifestyle and fitness July 7, and presence and poise/on-stage question July 8.

Miss Metro

Kala Soden of Cabot is the 18-year-old daughter of Mike and Donya Soden.

She will perform an acrobat/jazz routine to “Proud Mary” for her talent, and her platform is “Mentoring to Make a

Difference.”

A freshman biology/pre-med major at ASU, she will compete in interview on the evening of July 5, lifestyle and fitness July 6, presence and poise/on-stage question July 7, and artistic expression July 8.

Miss Ozark Mountain

McCartney Drouin of Mountain View is the 19-year-old daughter of Mark and Ilona Drouin.

She will present a vocal rendition of “Feeling Good” as her talent, and her platform is “Make a Wish: Change a Life.”

A junior majoring in occupational therapy at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, she will compete in interview on the evening of July 5, lifestyle and fitness July 6, presence and poise/on-stage question July 7, and artistic expression July 8.

Miss University of Arkansas

Savannah Skidmore of Calico Rock is the 21-year-old daughter of Jerry and Kim Skidmore.

She will present a vocal rendition of “Finding Wonderful” for her talent, and her platform is “Speak Up Now: Suicide Prevention and Awareness.”

A junior broadcast journalism major at the U of A, she will compete in interviewJuly 5, presence and poise/on-stage question July 6, artistic expression July 7, and lifestyle and fitness July 8.

Season ticket passes for the Miss Arkansas pageant are $87. Tickets for preliminary nights are $22 each and for the crowning night, $32 each. All prices include a $2 facilities fee.
