Kickoff event has French twist

This year, the Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow is adding an extra French twist to “Samplings and Sips,” the kickoff event of Fleur Delicious 2016, which will begin at 5 p.m. July 5 at The Writer’s Colony at Dairy Hollow, 515 Spring St. in Eureka Springs. Inspired by the “Outlander” books and television series, the theme is taken from the 18th century glamour of Paris.

This year’s sips will feature a sparkling French champagne courtesy of Eureka Zen; a rose from the Tavel Region of France, provided by Grotto Wood Fired Grill and Wine Cave; a robust Bordeaux, courtesy of the Loretta Young Legacy Project; and a variety of local wines, provided by Vicki and Greg Schneider of Railway Winery.

Samplings this year are provided by the newest Fleur Delicious partner, Kent Walker Artisan Cheese of Little Rock, which will be presenting a wide array of delicious, handmade, caveaged artisan cheeses. And because no French food experience would be complete without bread, they are featuring a selection of heavenly hand-crafted breads baked by Caribe Restaurant and Jana Jones. French desserts will be served along with a dessert wine.

Poetry on Demand will be set up so participants can request an original poem composed for them by local poets Mackenzie Doss and Molly Sroges.

WCDH also debuts the inaugural edition of a series of French-inspired paintings by Teresa Pelliccio at this year’s event.

Tickets are a $15 donation to the Writers’ Colony.
