A grandmother in Hot Springs was arrested after a 12-year-old girl told police the woman used a switch on her as punishment, according to a police report.

Norma Jean Toussaint, 70 was charged with second-degree domestic battery Monday afternoon after police were called to her home, according to her arrest report.

The report states that Toussaint told police she punished the child for talking back.

The girl told police her grandmother got the switch from the backyard and beat her because she had not thrown out food after being told to do so.

Police said the two gave similar versions of events. The girl had welts on her arm, but she was not bleeding, police wrote.

Toussaint was reported to the Department of Human Services and taken to the sheriff's office to be charged, the report states.
