Male shot in the abdomen in Springdale incident

SPRINGDALE -- A male was shot in the abdomen Monday night near Park Street and Caudle Avenue and taken to the hospital, according to a news release issued late Tuesday afternoon by the Springdale Police Department.

The injuries from the shooting were not life-threatening.

"Witnesses stated a disturbance occurred between the injured male and another subject prior to the gunshots," the release stated.

The release didn't provide further details about the incident or the identities or ages of those involved and stated no further information was available late Tuesday afternoon. Derek Wright, police spokesman, didn't respond earlier Tuesday to texts seeking information on the shooting.

The shots were reported at 8:45 p.m. at 617 Park St., according to police call logs. After the initial police response to the incident, which was listed as "gunshots," police returned to the scene at 10:43 p.m., according to the police dispatch log.

The reported location of the shooting was near the Razorback Greenway and Jones Elementary School.

Detectives with the department's Criminal Investigation Division went to the scene at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday to investigate, the dispatch log states.
