FORT SMITH -- An 11-year veteran of the Fort Smith Police Department resigned Tuesday after he was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and refusing to submit to a breath test.
Officer Carson Addis, 33, was arrested about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday while off duty at police headquarters, where he was to attend a meeting, a police news release said.
After his arrest, he resigned effective immediately and was booked into the Sebastian County jail, the release said. The investigation was ongoing, the release said.
