ANNUAL DINNER

Former Rep. Schexnayder, educator Weaver honored

Charlotte Tillar Schexnayder of Little Rock and Ernestine Weaver of Forrest City were honored at the Jimmie Lou Fisher -- Lottie Shackelford Dinner held at the Clinton Presidential Center on March 4.

The annual Democratic Women's dinner highlights issues that matter to women in Arkansas and honors women for their work in public service. Schexnayder, formerly of Dumas, was co-owner of the Dumas Clarion newspaper, a former state representative and the first woman appointed to the Arkansas Board of Pardons and Parole. Weaver is a justice of the peace on the St. Francis County Quorum Court, has served as vice chairman for the Democratic Party of St. Francis County and is a retired educator and former secretary of the Forrest City School Board.

Guests were welcomed to the dinner by Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola. After the meal, the honorees were introduced by state Sen. Joyce Elliott and former Little Rock Mayor Lottie Shackelford. Congressman Joaquin Castro of Texas, the guest speaker, was introduced by former White House Chief of Staff Thomas F. ''Mack'' McLarty.
