Worker rescued after fall into water tower

GAINESVILLE, Va. — A worker fell about five stories inside a Virginia water tower and survived.

Prince William County Fire and Rescue officials said in a news release that the worker was welding something Thursday when he fell 50 feet inside the empty tower that was undergoing rehabilitation in Gainesville.

Rescue teams used ropes and a basket to extricate the worker, who suffered moderate injuries. He was flown to a hospital for treatment.
