Whitt announced his intention to leave the Razorbacks in March. He played in all 32 games and averaged 6.1 points per game as a freshman.
According to NCAA transfer rules, Whitt will have to sit out the 2016-17 season. He will have three years of eligibility remaining at SMU.
Whitt is the second member of Arkansas' 2015 signing class to join the SMU program. Ted Kapita, a forward who failed to qualify academically for the Razorbacks last season, committed to the Mustangs earlier this year.
