Drillers suspend $25M SS for year

The Tulsa Drillers began a fourgame series with the Arkansas Travelers this week, but Cuban prospect Erisbel Arruebarrena isn’t with the team.

The 26-year-old shortstop, who signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers for $25 million in 2014, was suspended by the organization for the rest of the season Wednesday for a “repeated failure to comply with the terms of his contract,” farm director Gabe Kapler told the Los Angeles Times.

Arruebarrena was hitting .182 with 4 home runs and 8 RBI through 17 games after playing Northwest Arkansas on Sunday.

Tulsa Manager Ryan Garko said Arruebarrena was not with the team, but he declined further comment after the Drillers’ 7-6, 12-inning loss to the Arkansas Travelers on Wednesday at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock.
