LSU sweeps, sends Arkansas to last in SEC

LSU beat Arkansas 7-1 Sunday at Alex Box Stadium to sweep the three-game series and send the Razorbacks to a tie for last place in the SEC.

The No. 15 Tigers scored twice in the second inning and four times in the fifth to take control of the game. LSU led 7-0 after scoring a run in the eighth.

Arkansas (26-22, 7-17 SEC) didn't score a run until the ninth when Cullen Gassaway singled to score Austin Catron with two outs. The run was the team's first in 14 innings.

LSU (31-16, 14-10) chased Razorbacks starter Keaton McKinney from the game in the fifth inning. McKinney allowed four runs on four hits and struck out four.

LSU led 2-0 after Brennan Breaux's two-run single in the second inning and increased its lead to 3-0 when McKinney threw a wild pitch with a runner on third base in the fifth.

The Tigers extended their lead to 6-0 when Jordan Romero hit a three-run home run off Arkansas reliever Weston Rogers in the fifth. LSU out-hit the Razorbacks 10-8.

Caleb Gilbert gave up five hits in five scoreless innings to earn the win for the Tigers. Parker Bugg added three scoreless innings in relief.

Arkansas has been swept in four SEC series this season. The Razorbacks are scheduled to play again against Alabama on Friday at Baum Stadium.
