North Little Rock man arrested in shooting at Family Dollar

A North Little Rock man sought in connection with the shooting of a woman outside a Family Dollar in Jacksonville has been arrested, according to police.

Henry Arece Akins, 21, is accused of shooting a woman in the leg as she attempted to run from her car and into the store at 1700 S. First St. on Thursday.

The woman shot, who was found bleeding on the floor behind a store counter, told police that she was shot outside during a drug deal that ended badly, according to a report.

Akins told authorities that the woman's boyfriend pulled a gun out when he went to get money as part of a marijuana purchase. A struggle then ensued with the gun, Akins said, leading to the woman being shot as she fled.

He faces charges of aggravated robbery, first-degree battery and possession of a firearm by certain persons, according to police.

Records show Akins was booked into the Pulaski County jail about 7:54 p.m. Monday, where he remained as of Tuesday evening.
