Police say 7-year-old brought loaded gun to school

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. — If you see a gun in school, tell a teacher. That's what happened at an elementary in Tennessee, and no one was hurt after police say a 7-year-old boy carried a loaded gun in his backpack.

The Tennessean reported that Westside Elementary School in Springfield, Tenn., went on lockdown Thursday morning after the boy showed the gun to another student. That student told the teacher, who contacted school administrators, who called police.

Springfield Police Chief David Thompson said the boy was not threatening anyone but has been charged with unlawful gun possession as the investigation continues.
