Vocal Scholarship Award Concert

CONWAY — The Kristin Lewis Foundation will host the second Vocal Scholarship Award Concert at 3 p.m. in Reynolds Performance Hall at the University of Central Arkansas. A reception and awards presentation will follow. The event is free and open to the public. UCA alumna and opera singer Kristin Lewis is the founder of the Kristin Lewis Foundation, which is dedicated to encouraging talented musicians at all levels of performance.

Conway AARP Meeting

CONWAY — Conway AARP Chapter 796 will meet at the Ola and John Hawks Senior Wellness and Activity Center, 705 E. Siebenmorgen Road. Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m., followed by featured speakers Craig O’Neill and Jane Hankins from noon to 1 p.m. All seniors 50 and older are invited to attend. Audubon Society Meeting

RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas River Valley Audubon Society will meet at 7 p.m. in the Lakeview Room of the Lake Dardanelle State Park Visitor Center. For directions, call (479) 977-3899. The program will be presented by Jack Stewart of Jasper, who serves on the board of directors of the National Audubon Society and is education co-chair for the Arkansas Audubon Society. His topic will be Many Happy Days I’ve Squandered, about natural-history books that he read in his youth that influenced his life. Refreshments will be served, and the public is invited to attend.

Water-Safety Instructor Classes

RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Recreation and Parks Department will conduct Red Cross water-safety instructor classes for anyone who would like to teach swim lessons. The classes will be held from Monday through Thursday at the Hughes Community Center and the M.J. Hickey Pool. Participants may register and pay the registration fee from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Hughes Community

Perryville Planning and Zoning Meeting

PERRYVILLE — The regular Perryville Planning and Zoning meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Perryville City Hall Meeting Room.

Pool Opening

RUSSELLVILLE — The M.J. Hickey Pool will open Saturday. Pool hours will be 12:30-6:30 p.m. every day. Daily admission is $4 for adults 18 and older, and $3 for children younger than 18. Individual season passes are available for $75 at the Hughes Community Center, 1000 E. Parkway Drive.

Music in the Mall

FAIRFIELD BAY — Music in the Mall, featuring local and drop-in performers, will take place from 6-9 p.m. the first, second and fourth Thursdays of the month at the Education Center Gazebo in the Village Mall. All are invited to bring instruments, their singing voices, lawn chairs and neighbors. The event is free. Learn to Swim Program Registration

RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Recreation and Parks Department will conduct swim lessons with certified Red Cross instructors at the M.J. Hickey Pool. The program will begin June 6, with sessions and classes determined by the number of participants. Each session will include eight lessons in two weeks. Morning and evening classes will be offered. Register from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Hughes Community Center, 1000 E. Parkway Drive. A parent or legal guardian needs to register minors, and the fee is $60. Tea Party Luncheon

CONWAY — The Faulkner County Tea Party has a luncheon at noon every Thursday at Larry’s Pizza, 1068 Markham St. Guest speakers and the members’ “soap box” are featured each week. Anyone interested in governmental and business affairs on the county, state or national level is invited to arrive early, eat pizza and meet the group’s members.

Alzheimer’s Disease Education Program

CONWAY — Living With Alzheimer’s for Younger-Onset Alzheimer’s, a series of education programs for families dealing with younger-onset Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia, will be presented at 10 a.m. June 2 at the Faulkner County Library, 1900 Tyler St. Topics will include developing a care team, legal and financial planning, coping strategies, care and treatment options, communicating and connecting, and maximizing independence. CONWAY — Buddy Case will present a concert at 2 p.m. June 4 at the Faulkner County Library. Case is an accomplished singer/songwriter and guitarist. Book Signing

CONWAY — Local author and librarian Adrianna Davis will have a book signing at 1 p.m. June 4 at the Faulkner County Library. She will sign copies of The Journey Series, an anthology of chapbooks that take a look at life, at death and love, and everything life has to offer. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in writing from the University of Central Arkansas and is pursuing a master’s degree in library science. All library events are free and open to the public. Educational Trail Walk

CONWAY — Shirley Pratt, retired biology teacher and herbal enthusiast, will lead a trail walk, Historic Uses of Edible and Medical Plants from the Backyard, on June 4. Meet in the west parking area of the Faulkner County Library at 10 a.m. No registration is required, and admission is free. Participants are urged to wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring water, a hat and other items required for comfort. The walk should last about an hour and be on easy terrain. Benefit Golf Tournament

CONWAY — A golf tournament to benefit the Women’s Shelter of Central Arkansas is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. June 17 at Nutters Chapel Golf and Country Club. Breakfast and registration will be at 7:45 a.m. The three-person scramble costs $300 per team. Cash prizes, which will be presented after lunch, will be awarded for closest to the pin and longest drive. Sponsorship packages are available.
